Faster, lighter and more affordable ARRIRAW
The XR Module allows in-camera ARRIRAW recording up to 120 fps onto exceptionally fast and rugged 512 GB XR Capture Drives. This not only makes for a smaller and lighter camera package, it also simplifies setup and operation while avoiding unnecessary cabling. The result is an even faster and more reliable way to record ARRIRAW, ALEXA's highest quality image output. The Single Dock USB3 allows safe copying of this data to a Retina MacBook Pro, and the Dual Dock can make clones of XR Capture Drives and connect to a Mac Pro via SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) for high speed copying.

4K/2K RAW options

If you want the maximum flexibility that 4K and 2K RAW deliver, Sony's optional AXS-R5 Access Memory System recorder is a remarkable choice. Unlike some RAW systems, Sony's 16-bit linear capture preserves more tonal values than the human eye can differentiate. This is also the ideal match for the 16-bit linear ACES workflow. Vast exposure latitude

Cinematographers paint their images with light and shadow. So the ability to render tones from deepest shadows to brightest highlights is a crucial test of any digital camera. The F5 excels, with 14 stops of exposure latitude. DPs have noticed that the camera holds remarkable detail in the highlights, while noise in the blacks is extremely low. The result? Graceful rendering of scene contrast, even in searing sunlight. The camera is rated at ISO 2000 (S-Log 2 gamma, D55 light source) for superb results in available light.

Retaining maximum grayscale

Given all the effort Sony made to achieve 14 stops of exposure latitude, it would be a crime to crush this latitude in recording. That's why Sony gives you a choice of grayscale encoding. read more

The camera also performs Slow & Quick (S&Q) motion for overcranking and undercranking. This enables you to alter the narrative by speeding up or slowing down the action, choosing frame rates from 1 frame per second (fps) to the maximum in 1 fps increments. Sony’s 4K universe

Like high definition a decade ago, 4K is emerging as a consumer entertainment platform. And Sony is playing a pivotal role in this transition. When we launched the world's first commercial 4K projectors in 2005, we had to explain that a “K” was 1024 horizontal pixels and that “4K” meant 4096 x 2160 resolution. We had to itemize the advantages with tutorials on resolution and seating distance. Today 4K is a robust production platform. It is enshrined in the Digital Cinema Initiatives (DCI) specification. The ITU and SMPTE have both issued 4K standards. And the Consumer Electronics Association has recently launched the term “Ultra High-Definition” (Ultra HD) to cover 4K consumer products. read more

The PMW-200 is Sony’s successor to the hugely popular PMW-EX1 Camcorder.

The PMW-200 is the sucessor to Sony's well respected PMW-EX1/R camcorder which supports the 50 Mbps MPEG HD422 codec and MXF recording. It is a good companion to the PMW-500 XDCAM HD422 shouldermount camera. With its three 1/2-inch Full HD Exmor CMOS sensor (1920×1280), the PMW-200 is able to achieve high resolution, high sensitivity, low noise, and wide dynamic range. The PMW-200 can be used for both SD and HD applications. It can be set to record 50 Mbps MPEG HD422 as MXF files on UDF formatted cards just like the PMW-500 memory camcorder or the PDW-700/F800 optical disc based camcorders. Or you can set the camcorder for FAT mode recording to shoot SxS cards which are compabile with the XDCAM EX format made by the PMW-EX1/R or PMW-320/350. For SD applications you can make DVCAM recordings as either MXF files or XDCAM EX compatible files.

RED Epic-X

Rocket now has its RED Epic-X available for hire in Auckland and Wellington. The Epic X is RED’s new digital cinema camera which vastly improves on RED’s previous effort the RED One MX. The Epic is capable of attaining images at 5K resolution and its new Redcode allows for higher quality, less compressed imagery at 16 bit.

The RED Epic-X is smaller and more compact than it's predecessor the RED One, it shoots to SSD drive and offers 5k resolution. The camera comes with PL mount and we will soon have the Canon EF mount which will allow the use of Canon EF lenses. RED has also developed a new HDRx (High Dynamic Ranger) function, previously something only available to DSLR users in still photography, to capture situations with huge extreme in exposure values.

The camera can shoot up to 120fps at 5K and 300fps at 2K and has a variety of aspect ratios including 2.4:1 and 'Full Frame.'

The Sony PMW-F3 is the latest member of Sony’s CineAlta lineup. SLog and 4:4:4 now added.

The PMW-F3 is equipped with the newly developed Exmor Super 35 CMOS image sensor, PL lens mount, and SxS card for 1920 x 1080 full-HD recording.The PMW-F3 features include RGB 4:4:4 baseband output with S-LOG gamma for external recording which means it can be used in an HDCAM-SR workflow. It also offers a 3D-LINK option, which allows two camcorders to be controlled simultaneously for 3D stereoscopic shooting.

  • The PMW-F3 is equipped with a newly developed Exmor Super 35 CMOS image sensor which offers creative shallow depth of field, similar to that of a film camera. This sensor has an extremely high sensitivity of F11 (ISO800) with a very low noise level (an S/N ratio of 63 dB).
  • The PMW-F3 employs a PL lens mount that is standard for film cameras, allowing use of a virtually unlimited number of prime and zoom lenses for 35-mm film cameras.

The PDW-F800 camcorder is the newest member of the XDCAM family. It offers multi-format recording flexibility as standard – including SD recording and a frame rate of 23.98P in 1080 mode. It is equipped with three 2/3-inch type CCDs and a Power HAD FX progressive CCD with 1920 x 1080 effective pixels.
